Fairy Dogmothers and Nick

Nancy and Rosemary pictured here have been dubbed the fairy dogmothers to the downtown dogs. Did you know that many members of the homeless community have dogs? The dogs provide companionship as well as protection. The Burrito Boyz distribute close to fifty pounds of dog food each Sunday. Nancy and Rosemary have taken on the responsibility of organizing Sunday volunteers in bagging indivual portions of food to be distributed downtown. They are also finding donations of dog treats. Nancy told me last week  she now has her children donating money so she can buy a variety of dog treats. In addition to dog food, we also have cat food on hand, although we see few cats on Sundays. Thank you Nancy and Rosemary!

The Burrito Boyz have had the pleasure of welcoming Nick as a volunteer. Another very inpirational volunteer, Nick  is a former foster youth who is a dedicated young man, working hard to build a future for himself despite the hardships he faced in his childhood, growing up in a series of foster homes.  Nick is currently working at the Boys and Girls club and attending classes at SD City College. Thank you, Nick, for joining us!!!

The Lawrence family from South Carolina has been following the Burrito Boyz through the news and internet so they made it a priority to volunteer with the Burrito Boyz, while visiting family in Point Loma over the holidays. It was a pleasure to have you join us, Hal, Liz, Bella, and Savannah. Thank you for your service!

Thanks to the Jim Cunningham family for joining us on Sunday.  The Cunninghams generously donated and distrubuted over 75 pairs of socks.

You are Late!

On Sunday, May 22, while Michael & Mehrnaz were celebrating their anniversary, Tony and Rob drove the boys to distribute the breakfast burriots and water. Usually the drivers hear comments like “the burritos are still hot” or “this is the highlight of our week”, but when the delivery showed up a little before 9:00am, they were greeted with, “Hey, you’re late!”. This was said and a very funny and loving manner, but I share the story because the homeless community has really grown to appreciate and enjoy this special commitment by Alec, Luke, Nick, Cole and Joe!
